HBERSOLE, Jonas

Ebersole, a 33-year-old white farm laborer in Bedford Co., Pass was
separated from his wife who had returned to the home of her parents
on their farm. Ebersole had a particular dislike of her 12-year-
old half-brother, Harry K, Brandt who had accused him of stealing
coal and other malpractices and had, on a number of offcasions, been
heard to utter threats against the lad. On the evening of Nov. 6;
1921, young Brandt was sent out by his parents to drive the cows
home from the field. He met Ebersole who knocked him unconscious
by striking him in the forehead with a club, As he was taking what
he thought was a dead body to an abandoned well, Brandt revived and
he choked him unconscious. The boy AEKX#8AXAXEKEXA revived a third
time and Ebersole then strangled him to death with a cord which he
left about his throat before throwing the corpse into the well and
thinky camaflouging it. The body was discovered the next day and
Ebersole was immediately suspected. He was taken into custody on
