Kelly, aAwhite man, had worked as a tenant for George Kippen, a far-
mer who lived in Geneva Town, two miles south of Geneva City, Ontar-
io Co., Ne Ye, for fifteen years, For many years,a Kelly, his #ife
and their three children lived in a tenant house on the farn but
Mrs, Kelly left him because of his abuse of her when he was intoxi-
cated and because BXXEK she discovered that he was hamming an affair
with Margaret Kippen, the 30-year-old mentally retarded daughter of
his employer, Mrs. Kippen was deceased and Mr. Kippen had employed
Kleanor O'Shea as a housekeeper, When Miss O'Shea learned of the
affair between Kelly and Margaret, she sought to break it Upe Bhe
Called Kelly a bad name and he struck her in the head with a hammer
while Margaret beat her in the face with a Stick of wood, Kelly was
tried, convicted and sentenced to die for the murder, There is no
record of Margaret Kippen being placed on trial and she was possibly
excused because of her mental condition, Kelly was hanged in the
Ontario County Jail at Canandaigua on July 10, 1889,
