after making brave effort to conceal emotion broke down &
sobbed. Pleading for mercy for both him and Harrell, he
attempted to take entire burden of crime on own shoulders,
Harrell, he declared, never had a chance and had a wife
with baby born just 6 days before depending on him for
support, Harrell, he admitted, was not at hand when he
fired 2 bullets into officer's head, but was back at the
auto of Maj, McDeary. Harrell went back at his direction,
the defendant said, to turn engine of car off, Verdict
returned after 30 minutes deliberation, Both received
death sentence almly and made no comment,"
