WILLIAMS, Persia
Williams, a 27-year-old black ex-convict, lived in Seattle, Wash.,
where he was employed as a longshoreman, On the evening of Dec, 15,
193, he and two accomplices, 2h-year-old James Keener and 32-year-old
James Wilson, both black, went to the grocery store owned by 66-year-
old Joseph Romagnoli located at 801 Dearborn Ste, Seattle, Williams
went behind the counter and began rifling the register, Romagnoli
south to interfere and he shot him twice, Mrs, Romganoli came from
the living quarters behind the store and began grappling with Wilson
who shot her in the neck after she had torn some buttons from his
coat. Keenkr ran back into the living quarters where he shot Frank
Nesci who roomed with the Romganolis in the abdomen, All three of
the robbers were seen fleeing from the grocery by passersby who
summoned an ambulance and the Romganolis and Nesci were taken to 4
hospital where Romganoli died shortly afterwards. Williams was taken
into custody on suspicion the next day and confessed three days later,
naming Wilson and Keener as tibm accomplices, At their trkal, all &
three were identified by Mrs, Romagnoli, who named Williams as her
husband's killer, Nesci and the passersby and all were convicted.
Williams was sentenced to die while both Keener and Wilson received
life sentences, There was no appeal and Williams was hanged at the
