Carey and Benjamin F, Spragins paid with their lives early
this morning for the killing of Albert H, Walker, prison
clerk, in an attempted escape from the Md, penitentiary
in July, 1927,. They were hanged in the death house of the
prison from which they sought to escape. Neither of their
necks were broken and the bodies were left hanging until
the vittims strangled to death. Carey was the first to
die shortly after midnight... Spragins followed, Carey
hanging from 12:07 to 12:25 and Spragins_from 12:33 to
1218, Both met death bravely. Of the 60 witnesses who
saw Carey die, only 13 remained when Spragins brought ine
