"Annapolis, Md: Feb. 7 (1754) Sunday night last
a very good house belonging to Mr. Charles Brown,
of Queen Anne's County near his own dwelling
house was burnt down and it was with great diffi
culty that they prevented some negro children
from perishing in the flames. It is supposed
to have been set on fire on purpose by one of his
negro wenches. And on Tuesday evening a pillow
with a coal of fire in it and some straw was X&#
found under his storehouse, (which stood on
blocks), just beginning to blaze. The wench is’
committed to Queen Anne's County Gaol," PENNSYL-
