Kent, a 35=year-old native of Vermont -was-Sentenced- +o-pri=
son for a murderous assault upon his uncle. He feigned in-
sanity and was transferred to the State Hospital where he
promptly made his escapes On July 2h 3 1908, he hid -in-the—
hayloft of East Wallingford deaf mite farm owner Delia |
Congdon until she came out to skim the milk, In an effort
to force her to reveal where-she- had--some- money hidden, he—
beat her to death. Kent was identified by a habit that he —
possessed of carving his initials wherever he went, They
were found-in Mrs. Congodn's hayloft—and-he left a conven-—
iant trail for officers to follow but nonetheless managed te
elude capture until October when he was arrested in Pitts=
filed, Masse, while attempting to-sell a stolen bicycle to
