~ Hughes, a 13-year-old Scottish born and educated. surgeon,
had served a term in prison for bigamy. Following his _
release, he went to Bedford, Ohio, and begged his 17-year-

old girl friend, Tamzen Parsons, to return to hime She-

_ refused and he went to a local tavern and dank himself _
into a state of intoxication. He then returned to her

~house and asked her to go-with him again. When she re~
fused for the second time, he pulled a pistol and killed —
her, shooting her twice in the head. Six months later ca
