Fugmam, a/Wilkes Barre, Pa., miner, was active in the affairs of his
local, independent labor union, During a particularly vicious mine
strike by FPugmann's union which was headed by Thomas Maloney and whicl
had failed to attain its objectives, Fugmann and several other members
ox the union had been arrested and jailed on the charge of damaging
property. Michael Gallagher, a 70-year-old cemetary caretaker, had
Biven damaging testimony that aided in the conviction of the men in
their trial before Judge B, 2, Jones, Harry Gouwlstone had been the
superintendent of the mine at which Fuggman worked and James 8B,
Gorman was the chairman of the mediation board that had ruled against
. the strikers, Sheriff luther Kniffen had made the arrests of the
miners. On April 10, 1936, identical .packages were mailed to B44
Maloney, Gallagher, Jones, Goulstone, Gorman and Kniffen, The
packages Exexxa had no return address and each contained a cigar box

boxes were opened. Maloney opened his package in the presence of
his two children and he and his young son were killed and his daugh-
