_An Army Major, Hadley was head surgeon at the Army Hospi-
tal on the campus of the University of Richmond, Va.,
when he became infatuated with a young nurse. In NoOVe»
1918, he killed his wife, Evelyn, by drugging her first
and then drowning her in the James Wiver. He made ela~
borate efforts to cover-up his crime, even to the extent _
of briping officials in Puerto Rico to bury another
woman as his wife there, and would possibly have Rotten
