Lacang, a 2h-year-old Filipino was married to a white woman, for-
merly “bhel Murdock, and they were the parents ofa 22-month-old
daughter. Lacang became jealous over the belief that his wife
was having an affair with the Japanese foreman of the EAREK grape
tanch where they both worked near Yel Ray, Calif., and stabbed
her to death. He also inflicted some minor knife wounds on him=
self, but these were superficial and he recovered. His explanation
of the motive Bor the killing was: "I killed her when she fefused
to be more chaste for the sake of our baby." Convicted without
a recommendation for mercy after only ten minutes deliberation by
the jury, Lacang was sentenced to hang, and he was executed on the
gallows at San Guentin on April 15, 1932.
