Outlaw, a 27-year-old black man, lived at 225 Lyon St., Memphis, Tenn.,
while his 33-year-old friend, Walker, also black, lived in the Oakville
section of the city. Around 9:30 on the night of April 21, 195, they
were parked with two women companions in a lover's lane area of Wat-=
ford St. when Andrew Jackson MXMHHXHHH Mitchison, a 3l-year-old white
truck driver for the Army Air Forces Supply Depot on Jackson St. drove
into the lane with his girl friend and parked some distance beyond
them, Outlaw and Walker Left their automobile and walked down to the
Mitchison. car where they dragged both the man and woman from the car
and announced their intention of robbing him and raping her, When
Mitchison resisted, Outlaw cut his throat with a knife and when Mitchi-
son attempted to run, they grabbed him and stabbed him repeatedly,

street and threw the body into the water, face down, The young woman
leaped into Mitchison's car and fled to a police station where she
notified the authorities, Outlaw was arrested shortly afterwards on
an anonymous tip received by the police officers and the murderywea-

from Mitchison were found in his house, Walker was taken into custody
a little later and both made confessions in which they admitted par-
