In the Galveston NEWS account of execution of Diggs Perry
at Bay City in April, 1913, it states that this was the
first legal hanging in Matagorda County =x in 30 years,
three blacks hanging been hanged then, and that Sheriff
Frank Rugely officiated at both executions,
