"Yallisville, Tex., 6-22-1887-0n Sunday morning near this
place, Childers Banks shot Martha Henderson twice in the
abdomen and ghigh, The woman is still alive, but the
wounds are probably mortal. Both of the parties are ne-
groes, The shooting occurred at March Henderson's house,
in thekitchen. The woman was preparing to cook dinner and
refused to go out at the call of Banks. He then opened
the door of the kitchen and shot the woman, As he left he
shot at March, missing him, March returned the fire with
a shotgun, loaded with birdshot, filling Banks' head and
face with the small shot, but doing no great injury. Banks
then left, flourishing his SXXX¥MKAKXKX six-shooter and
swearing that he would not be arrested. Immediately on
hearing of this affair, Sheriff G. C. Davis started in pur
suit, overtaking and arrested Banks, compelling him to drop
