"Alexandria, VAy Oct. 30, 1906-In Corporation Court this
afternoon, Judge Louis C. Barley presiding, Howard Banks,
colored, was sentenced to be hanged on Jane ll, 1907, for
the murder of Thomas Elzey, also colored...The murder of
Elzey by Banks occurred on the night of Oct. lith last,
The following day he was indicted and on Oct. 13th he was
found guilty of murder in the first degree. Banks was
apparently unaffected when sentence was pronounced, and
when asked if he had anything to say, he replied that he
