David and Theodosia, aged 1l, 8 and 6 respectively and
an unnamed infant which was still in the cradle. In the
early evening of 4-26-71 as the family was eating its
dinner, the Klan burst into the house and started
shooting. Then when all had been shot the Klansmen took
turns slashing at the bodies. They even slit the baby's
throat in the cradle. Lastly, the house was set afire.
Mrs. Weston somehow managed to crawl from the halocaust
with the baby and both survived to the astonishment of
all. Many Klansmen were arrested in a dragnet which
followed this outrage. A change of venue to Henderson
County was ordered and three Klansmen were sentenced to
death. The Adair brothers were executed on 7-12-72 but
the third defendent escaped.
