on Feb. 28, 1910. "New York, May 17, 1909-All speed re-
cords for the handling of a murder case in the history of
the present district attorney's term were broken today
when JusticeFitzgerald, sitting in the criminal branch of
the supreme court, sentenced Charles Bowser, a negro, to
die in the electric chair in the week beginning June 28,
On April 10,.eBowser shot to death Eugene Hutchison, ano-
ther negro, in front of the victim's home on 39th St,

He wasarrested the sane night and indicted withizm a week
for murder in the lst degree, The trial started last
Thursday, a remarkably short time after the returning of
the indictment, Although Bowswer was compehnelty defended

by three lawyers, appointed by the court, the trial
