BAYFIELD, Moses and DORTCH, Jack
Moses Bayfield and Jack Dortch (alias Jewett), both
black, hanged in Savannah, Ga., on April 18, 1867, for
th e murder of Mr, Seccinger, They were hanged in the
northeast corner of the jail yard at 6+15 AM in the
presence of 200 witnesses. Bayfield wept bitterly
while being bound. Bayfield's last words: "I'm ready
to dies I'm going home to heaven, Tell them all to
meet me there." Dortch said virtually the same thing.
