Quibby, an Indian, and another Indian named John Charles got into a
fight with two other Indians, Peleg Titus and Isaac Jeffrey, in the
forecastle of the sloop SALLY in Nantucket Harbor, Mass,, and Titus
and Jeffrey were both killed, Quibby and Charles were both lodged
in the Nantucket jail and, two months later, they got into a fight
in their cell and Quibby killed Charles by stabbing him in the throat
with a knife. He was finally brought to trial in the Old North Meet
ing House, Nantucket, on May , 1768, There was no defense and
Quibby made no statement or objection to the proceedings, He was

_ hanged on a gallows constructed on "Hangman's Hill" which is a short
distnace from the Milestone Circle, Nantucket, at the junction of
the roads leading from the town to Siasconset, the Airport and Surf-
Side on May 26, 1768, |
