DACE, Floyd ("Shorty")

Dace, a 2leyeareold black native of Stringer, Misse, was a farm labore
er who had moved NoxCleveland, Ohio, during World War II to engage in
defense work, After the war, he lost his:job in the factory and worke¢
at. various odd jobs before becoming a waiter in a Cleveland caffe, He
became friends with two other southerners, James Britton and Robert
Griffin, and the three of them decided:to supplement their incomes by
robbing various floating craps games, Mey would enter the games as
players and, if they won, they would take their money and leave, Howe
ever, if they lost, they would then rob the other players and several
of their victims were seriously injured. On the night of June 21,
1946, they entered a game in which Henry Lee Webb wasyplaying, After
they had lost their money, they attempted to rob the other players and
when Webb resisted, they all three drew pistols and shot him, After
they had fled the game, they attempted to board a freight train but
were intercepted by Nickle Plate railroad policeman Harley Kinear who
they also shot and killed, A few nights later, after wounding and
leaving for dead the driver who had given them a ride, Brit‘on and
