CHILDERS, John ("Johnnie') CARGE CARD
33-yearmold black man, electrocuted Rockview Prison (Pa.}
(Philadelphia) on March 29, 193, At 9:30 RX pm on
March 25, 192, entered empty grocery store owned by
Joseph Dowshen at 595 Race St., Philadelphia, and was
rifling cash regiseber when Dowshen and son came to front
from living quarters in rear, Announced it was a stick-
up and when Dowshen continued walking towards him, he
shot Dowshen in stomach, inflicting wound from which Dow-
shen died next day in hospital, Childers overpowered by
Dowshen's son, an eyewitness, and others attracted by the
shooting and held for police, At trial did not Sake
stand in own defense, Two persons testified that he had
always bore reputation for peacefulhess and good charac-
tere Appealed and affirmed (29 ATLANTIC (2nd) 71).
Went to death without aid of guards.
