"John Marion Osborne, the murderer of Mrs, Adelia Matth-
ews, was hanged at Knoxville, Ill., yesterday (3-1-1873)
Previous to the execution he wroee a full confession of
the crime, He insisted that he was hired to doz the deed
and coolly told how he struck her down with a brick, and
then finding her still 4¥X6 alive and that she recognize
him, took his knife, and while 'feeling as if he would
give worlds to see her well again,' cut her throat,"
