"Portland, Oregon, Feb, 13, 1885-J.. W. Murray was hanged
at 1:20 this afternoon in the presence of less than thirty
witnesses. Thecondemned man maintained good spirits to
the last, and needed no assistanceto the scaffold. He
talked a great deal during the forenoon, and ate a hearty
meal, His neck was broken and death instantaneous, "'
