Jury at the November term, 1897, returned abill of indict
ent against Henry Nesbit, a colored man, for murder, He
was convicted and sentenced to be hung on Dec, 10, 1897,
Hews executed on that day. R. V. Handley was sheriff and
the executing officer, One of the largest crowds ever to
assemble in Irwinville was present on that day to witness
the execution, At the appointed hour he was promptly exe}
cuted upon a gallows erected in the jail yard at Irwin-
ville, His budy was buried in the colored ABMEKAKE
Methodist Church cemetery at Irwinville,"
