DAVIS, Charles.

Black, hanged Port Allen, West Baton Rouge Parish, tae: on
| March’ 5, 1909, for the murder of a prison guard. Davis,

a convict at the state prison near Baton Rouge, maintained
that his first imprisonment was the result of a mistaken
identity, and as a matter of fact it was under another
name that he was lodged in the penitentiary. Afew nights
ago he made a second desperate effort to escape which came
near proving successful, BIRMINGHAM NEWS, 3-l-1909
