| "Lexington, Ky., 11-21-188-John Bush, colored, was hanged
| here today at 12:30 p.m. for the mirder of Miss Annie
Vanmeter, five years and 11 months ago. Bush was emp Loyed
by James Vanmeter, father of the girl, when the killing
occurred, Bush and the girl's father were engaged in a
difficulty when Miss Vanmeter, coming in range of Bush's
pistol, was shot in the thigh and afterward died. Bush

was taken to the scaffold at 12 o'clock and, after reli-
gious services, was allowed to speak, He spoke for ten
minutes, giving an account of the way the killing occurred
and maintaining his innocence to the last, He claimed that

Vanmeter shot his own child while attempting to shoot him,
Miss Vanmeter was about l7-years-old. Bush has had four |
trials in the Circuit Court, fourtin the State Superior :
