King and yueen County, Va., Court of Oyer and
Zerminer, March 20, 1797, Sam the property of
James Laughlin convicted of a murder committed
in Parish of Saint Stephens. On March 13, 1797,
he had killed Elizabeth Laughlin. *+he weapon
was a grubbing hoe, made of iron with a Wooden
handle, He hit her on the head and killed her,
but continued striking her. Valued at $400 and
sentenced to be hanged on April 22,1797. Dep.
Sh. West attested the execution on that date,
