JACOB :
"The Richmond correspondent of the Petersburg ESPRESS
says: 'L learn by a private letter from Charles City Co,
that the negro Jacob was executed there last Monday
(either Mpril 21 or April 28, 1856) for the murder of
EB. W. Harwood. The monster exhibited no signs of contri-
tion when his last moments approached, but on the contrary
confessed that he had contemplated the murder for three
days beforehe committed the diabolical deed, He seemed
utterly careless and inflifferent as to his fate. Ata
given signal the wagon was driven from under him, and the
murderer swung off, though some ten minutes elapsed be-

fore he waspronounced dead. The number of persons present
was very large." RICHMOND ENQUIRER, Richmond, Vaey
