Negro Guilford April 17, 1857

Offence: Murder

Location: Raleigh NC

Ex Date: 4—17-1857

Details: Slave of Col. Mooring of Johnston County.

Killed a white man named Mr. Peebles. The
execution took place at the State Rock Quarry north of
town. Case was affirmed by State Supreme Court. Master

spent more than $1000 in legal fees in efforts to save
his neck.
