EARLY HANGINGS OF; SLAVES IN MILLEDGEVILLE, BALDWIN COUNTY,
GEORGIA.

"In the office of the *robate Judge here are some rare re-~
cords with a little book marked, I believe Slave Trials
in 1812-1826", Here is a sample: John, a slave of Wh.
McGehee, adjugdgd guilty of rape on Suzanna Cebb, was or-
dered hanged; A slave of John A. Jones found guilty of
burning a ginhouse and some_cotton store inside, was hang-
ede A slave belonging to Andrew Elliott found guilty of _
assault and attempt to murder and to rape Lillie Lankford
was hangede Dave, a slave, found guilty of assault on a
white man with a long-bladed knife, was hanged. Also
hanged Was a slave of “srael Jordan for attacking a white
man with a Sticke George, a slave of John Ponder, was
hanged for stealing clothing and money worth #150,00.
