Renna, a/Latin tour guide and gigolo in Port Au Prineg, Haiti, had
met a New Jersey woman in 1928 who he followed back to the United
States and married. He remained until 193li when he veturned to
Port au Prince and resumed his chosen occupation of preying off lady
anes In 1936, he met a Bronx stenographer, ‘Rose Selantano, who
was in Haiti on vacation and fell in love with her, 4fter Miss Celan-
tano veusnicd to the United Ytates, he wrdte her a number of mmass
passionate letters in which he declared his love and she replied in a
friendly but platonic vein. Renna made his way to N

New York and attem-
pted a courtship. When Miss Celantano refused to take his wooing
seriously, he became gcc bhi and threatened her and her family. Fi-
nally she went to the police and Renna was ordered to leave the coun-
try as an unwanted alien loths ne was heard from him for several
months and’it was assumed that he had returned to Haiti. On the night
of Feb. 268, 1935, he threw a bottle filled with gasoline and sealed
with cloth which he had ignited into her bedroom, severely burning
