in Kansas City when he attempted to see her, He denied having killed
the two sisters but admitted his involvement in the Pendergast bur-~
glary, hoping to be tried in Missouri on the lesser charge, However,
he was returned to Oklahoma where he was tried, convicted and sen-
tenced to die. The conviction was overturned xm on appeal and he was
then tried in Enid on a change of venue where he was for the second
time convicted and the death sentence pronounced, He was electrocu-
ted at the Oklahoma State Prison on Nov. 2h, 1933. His last words
were: "If Christ on the cross could look down and say, 'Forgive them
for they know not what they do,' who am I to be better?" The Griff-
ith girl's father, night Chief of Police at Blackwell, was refused
his requgst that he and his two Sons be allowed to witness the execu-
tion.

QUINN, Earl November 24, 1933

Quinn, 4 29-year-old white native of Kansas City, Mo., had served
terms in the Missouri State Prison for forgery and assault with in-
tent to kill, In 1930 he was a participant in a $150,000 burglary
of he home of Kansas City political boss Tom Pendergast and when he
became a suspect he moved to Tonkawa, Okla., where he posed as a
salseman but actually engaged in bootlegging and rum-running. Karly
on the morning of Dec, 28, 1930, he was standing in the road outside
of Tonkawa and flagged down two sisters from Blackwell, ZSXi4 3),-
year-old Zexia and 2h-year-old Jessie Griffith, schoolteachers re-
turning to their jobs in Muskogee after spending the Christmas holi-
days with therr parents. He forced them at gunpoint to drive to a
deserted road where he ordered Zexia from the car and shot her in
the back. He then dragged Jessie into the woods and raped her before
shooting her twice in the head. He drove the sisters! car to the
Spot where he had parked his own, returned to his rooming house where
he packed his bags, and left Tonkawa, Quinn became. a suspect: when
several witnesses identified him as a man who. had been staggering
up 4nd down the highway attempting to get motorists.to stop. His
wife was located in Kansas City and after being told that her husband
Was a suspect in the double murder, she told officers-where he had
