WASHINGTON, Marion Andrew

Washington, & 26-year-old black native of Bremond, Tex., was an Army
Sergeant stationed at Fort Hood, Tex., where he served as a supply
clerk. On the night of April 2, 1955, he accosted Airman Henry Poole,
21~vears—old and his fiancee who were parked near James Comally Air
Force Base near Waco and ordered them at gunpoint into the woods.

When he ordered the girl to disrobe, Poole grappled with him and
Washington shot him and fled. The girl attempted to help Poole walk
back to the car, but he died before the got, there and she ran for
help. Washington was arrested on May 27 on suspicion of a robbery
that had just occurred and a search of his car unvovered a .li5 calibre
pistol which a ballistics tests proved had fired the shot that had
killed Poole, Also found in the car was a class ring taken from a
victim of a series of rape-robberies that had occurred near the Air
Base and Washington fitted the description of the perpetrator of those.
Poole's fiancee picked him out from a lineup as the bandit who had

killed her fiance and attempted to attack her and he was convicted and
sentenced to death. Washington protested to the end that he had been

convicted of perjured testimony. He was electrocuted at the Texas
