: Isham Sims, a black farm laborer employed by a Washington
Co., tenn., farmer, W. D. Boring, was tending to his chores on July
9, 1897, when Walter Galloway, the fiance of Miss Effie Boring, rode
up. He offered Sims five cents to take his horse to the barn and
feed it, Sims refused and the two-men got—into an an Minelly,
