Executed June 5, 1900, Lycoming Co., Pas; murdered his wife
of one week, Olive Delaney, and her three small children,
6, 4 and 1, with an ax: on Nove 17, 18993 the bodies wer:
found under a straw sack on a neighbor's farm; sentenced
3-12-1900; "the sheriff charged a dime.a look at the cul~
prit after he had been sentenced"; feeling ran so high
against him that he was hanged ine ffigy on March 20; was
buried in Black Hope Valley within 100 yards of the house
where the crime was committed; Sheriff Gamble stated that
he had received over a thousand requests to see Hummel
hanged; warrant issued, Aprill2; execution reported in
Williamsport SUN, June 5 and GAZETTE & BULLETIN 2 June 6,
