serter from British or Canadian Army, hanged, Wilmington,

DeSilva, a Portugese, DeSilva owned a shop in, Wilmington
and kept money on hand, On the night before murder, Broughs
ton was broke, but the next night made ostentations dis-
play of money, treating friends, etc, Arrested six days
later and still had-money.as well as two purses, a ERMY cap
a pencil case and a ring belonging to DeSilva. Testified
before Grand Jury and tried hard to pin crime on a man
named Gonzales, At his trial, the foreman of Grand Jury
allowed to testify as to his efforts to pinc rime on ano-
ther and his conviction appealed on grounds that this
should not have been allowed. Affirmed (29 N. CG. 7h).
