KEIPER, Weston M, and ROWE, Henry

Keiper and Rowe, white men, had worked in the mines at Lykens, Pa.,
for several years, On March 1h, 1901, they entered the bank at Hali-
fax, Dauphin Co., drew revolvers and, while Keiper held the Prebi&eent
and Teller of the bank and a customer at bay, Rowe forced the Cashier,
Charles W, Ryan, to fill their satchel with over $2,000, As they
started to leave the bank, Ryan attempted to take Rowe's pistol and
Rowe shot him and ran from the bank. Keiper, distracted, was over-
come and taken prisoner by the bank president. Another citizen shot
and wounded Rowe as he attempted to flee down the street. Both men
were tried, convicted and sentenced to die and an accomplice, B, F
Sholey who pleaded guilty to being an accessory received a 10-year
sentence. They were hanged at Harrisburg on Jan, 28, 1902. Over

1,500 tickets were issued to the execution and several hundred other
persons were admitthd,
