"Jane 2li, 1896-George Ward, thehalfbreed Cherokee Indian,
was hanged at Van Buren, pe today for the murder of

_ Henry Bacon in Crawford County, Ark., July 28, 1895,

Ward confessed his'crime and said he killed a man named
Ellison at Houston, Tex., several years ago and was
serving a sentence in theTexas penitentiary at the time

he escaped into Arkansas, Bacon was kneeling in prayer at
a country church at the time Ward shot him through an open
window. He said he felt no remorse for his crime, He
died game, He was 19 years of age." NEWS, Galveston,
