"Danville, VA, 12-23=-1902~Special-Arthur Wilton, colored,
whows convicted of the murder of Jake Lee, on Nov, 12th,
was sentenced in theCorporation Court this morning to
hang on Feb. 6, 1903. Wilton, after he had been taken
back to his cell, requested to see a newspaper reporter
and made a statement in which he vigorously protested

his innocence and asked that the public be made cognizant
of the fact that an innocent man was sentenced to be hung
and that it was a warning sent to all young men to shun
liquor and bad company, His statement was to the effect
