aroused by the shooting and killing last night of Chief of
Police Will He Bishop by a negro he sought to question,
quieted down today after the arrest of the hunted man, Her=
bert Anderson, 29. The shooting occurred in a restaurant
where Bishop went to investigate a theft and was resisted in
his search by a negro woman whom he struck over the head
with his pistol. Bishop took the woman to the hospital for
treatment and returned later to the restaurant to search
for Anderson. Sheriff's deputies said the negro fired seve-

ral shots into the air and then went into the rest
