(Meridian) for the self-defense slaying of J, Meadows, a
white night club operator who had previously threatened
his life, will die in the portable electric chair on
Thursday, Jan, 12, 1950, Two years ago, the U. & Su-
preme Court reversed and remanded his case for a new
trial because Negroes had been systematically barred from
Jury service in lauderdale County for more than 50 years.
A second appeal to the highest court was turned down, &n
all white jury had again convicted him of first degree
murder, The way was paved for his second conviction per=
haps more on the prejudiced attitude of the jurors than
facts when a negro called for jury refused to serve,
