20-year-cld white man, electrocuted, Sing Sing Prison
(Greene Co,) on February 1l, 1937. ‘When Alfred F,
Volckman, 2l-year-old killer of a minister's little
daughter, was led into Sing Sing's brilliantly ihlumina- ~
ted execution chamber, he was like one already dead, He
spoke not a word, Although his eyes roved over the wit-
nesses, I doubt that he saw any of them. Guards had to
turn him into position on the rubber mat in front of the
chair and back him into the seat, He did not blink ang
eye as he was made ready for the current. Cold water
from the head electrede brickled down the back of his:
neck, but he gave no indication that he felt it, Offi-
clally he died between 11:01 and 11:03 PM on February ll,
1937, However, I wonder whether it would not be more
accurate to say that he died before then,"
