Peters, 2 Montauk Indian, was born at Montauk Point, Long Island, N.
Y. He and a number of other Long Island Indians joined a band of
Coast tribes and they formed a colony which they called the Brother-
tons and located near Rome, N. Y. On Feb, 2, 1800, Peters bludgeoned
his wife, Eunice, to death with a club or wooden poker, He was tried
and convicted in Oneida County and sentenced to die. On August 28,
1801, he was hanged from a gallows constructed upon a hill west of
the village of Whitesboro, The court subsequently issued an order
for the payment of $7.50 to Solomon “ich for "victualling Indian
witnesses, "
