FAIN, Lewis
Fain, a black resident of Knoxville, Tenney was employed as a porter in
a Knoxville hotel, On the evening of Nov, 28, 1932, he had been drink~
ing and had lost his money in a crap game, After successfully burglar-
izing one apartment, he went to a: boarding house located at 61) West
Church Avenue and forced entrance through a door into the apartment of
the landlady, After ransacking that apartment, he went upstairs and
entered the room where 2li-year-old MissCarrie Allen, the white cashier
at the S and W @MXEKK Cafeteria was sleeping. After stealing Miss
Allen's money and jewelry, he had started from the room when she awoke
and threw a shoe at him, Fain returned to her bed and raped her after
which he bludgeoned her and stabbed her repeatedly with a pocket knife
before cutting her throat, Her body was discovered by her roommate
who returned a short time later, Fain, arrested for drunkeness, was
questioned in connection with the Allen murder when bloodstains were
found on his underwear, However, there was nothing further to connect
him with the crime and he, along with other suspects, HERE was released
after several days confinement. On Dec, 30, 1932, he attemted to pawn
a ring which belonged to the victim and he was again arrested and
charged with the mrder, Fain continued to maintain his innocence
throughout his. trial and confessed only on the night before his sche-
dubdd execution, He was electrocuted at the Tennessee State Prison on
