WILSON, William

Wilson, a white resident of Anderson, S. C,, was married to a daughter
of Rev. Thomas Garrett, Despite the fact that they were the parents
of an infant child, they lived together unhappily and even though
Mrs. Wilton was known as a chaste woman, he was insanely jealous of
her and this led to frequent quarrels in which he would beat her, On
the evening of May 9, 1892, they agreed to Separate amicably and that
should would return to the home of her parents, Early the next morn-
ing, as she was bent over a trunk packing with her baby on the floor
at her feet, Wilson slipped up behind her and gashed her in the
throat with his ragor, She grabbed the baby and fled outdoors with
him in pursuit. When he overtook her, he held her head by back her
hair with one KHHW hand and, with the other, cut her thnoat so deeply
that her head was almost severed from MXXXWAX her body, He then
attemted to cohmit suicide by cutting his own throat byt assistance
arrived in time to save his life, At his trial in June, his defense
was one of insanity but he was convicted and sentenced to die, He

was hanged at the gail at Anderson on Octe 7, 1892, and a company of
