SLAVE December LOG.

"Charleston, January 3, 1789=#A feR days ago Mr.

Joseph Pledger, a respectable planter in Marlboro Count
was shot dead when sitting at his firewide at about
eight o'clock in the evening. Diligent inquiry being
MEH set on foot after the KRAMKXKAXKKBA perpetrator of
this inhuman action, he was discovered to be a negro
fellow belonging to Mr, Pledger, A trial took place
before two magistrates and five freeholders who found
the fellow guilty and sentenced him to be BURNT to

death, which was accordingly done next day in presence

of a great number of his colour who it is hoped recei-
ved such an impression fromthe punishment of their
fellow mortal that a repetition of such an |
assassination nmed not be dreaded. ‘the negro owned
the fact for which he suffered and accused another
with KXM being an accomplice who has been tried,
onvicted and sentenced to be hanged in January
