Bill, a full-blooded Eskimo, was a native of Alaska who moved to
Seattle, Washe, where he was employed as a laborer during World War
II, On April 12, 1945, he waylaid 5-year-old Irma Irene McGough,
returning home from a neighborhood drug store, HHX#KX and dragged
her into a storage bin in a temporary residence where he raped and
killed her, The body was found a few days Later and Bill remained
in hiding for several more days before he surrendered to the Seattle
police. At no time did he maintain his innocence and he was placed
on trial in June, convicted and sentenced to die, No appeal was
filed and he was hanged at the Washington State Prison on September
7, 1945. He went to his death calmly and with no show of emotion,
his last words being: "All I wish is that most of the young men I am
leaving behind will benifit by my mistakes that I made all through
my Life and especially this one. I hope to God that he forgives me,"
