"Jacksony Misses 9=20-1907=Dan Samuels, the negro cpmvacted
at Raymond during latter part of August of murder of Robert
Berryhill, a young whiteman, who lived near that town on
July 4 and sentenced to hang on Septe 2l1, is to be hanged
in the jail here instead of at Raymond as had been supposed,
There was seme discussion as to legality of hanging here as
crime and conviction in second judicial district of county
while Jackson in lst district, but it was decided that so
long as execution took place in jail, it will be all right,
Jackson jail is constructed with scaffold in jail while the
Raymond jail is not and it would be necessary to bu&ld at
some expense to county, At last meeting of board of super-
visors, a petition from number of Raymond citizens bsked
that execution be in public there to serve as warning to
