a 17-year-old school girl who he did not know, Mary Jolene Freiss,
rode past on a bicycle going for the mail. . The two boys made an
indecent proposal which she indignantly refused and rode off. Schrie-
ber told the other boy that she probably rode by a wooded .area cach

When she rode past on her way for the mail on “ugust 12, Schreiber
jumped from behind a tree and knocked her from the bicycle with a
club. As she ran into the woods, he followed and continued to hit
her on the head. When she fell to the ground, he dragged her further
into the woods, disrobed her, raped her and then stabbed her through
the heart with his pocket knife. Her body was discovered that even-
