"Greenwborough, NC, June 1, 1836, = John Calhoon, who was
sentenced at the recent term of the Superior Court for
this county, to be hanged for the murder of his wife, was
executed at this place on Saturday last (May 28, 1836),
Notwithstanding the incessant rain on that day, there was
a great concourse of people crowding around the cart and
the gallows to see the murderer's last sad day of life. =
